:: Recording Notes ::
0 - There are many versions of this Anglo-American song, a love song with elements of a narrative ballad in which two lovers bid each other farewell, as the young man goes off to seek his fortune. In common with other lyric songs much of it consists of floating verses from the common stock of oral poetic images. (Burns's famous "My Love is Like A Red Red Rose," for example, also contains the lines "her voice was like some instrument that's newly put in tune.")
