0 - Jones's Uncle John Smith did not want her to behave like a boy and hit her with a switch when he caught her climbing a peach tree. She had a good stepfather and did not suffer much not knowing her real father. (In other interviews in this collection, however, Jones says she longed to meet her father, stating that all children need to know their fathers).
